Mission & History
Established in 1982, Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education’s (DiAE) mission is to inspire the artist within each student through the visual and performing arts in the classroom and beyond by…
• Engaging all art forms with cross-disciplinary learning.
• Connecting professional artists with students and educators.
• And, offering programs that foster discovery, learning beyond the classroom, and understanding of one’s place in the world around them.
Our goal is to engage students in all subjects by using the arts to foster a love of learning while promoting cultural awareness and respect as well as enhancing creativity and critical thinking skills.
DiAE is unique in that we bring the programs to the schools with our professional artists. Our models of aesthetic, hands-on learning through the arts offers students of all ages to experience the creative decision making and critical thinking necessary to see beyond their circumstances and make connections to others and the world around them.
We provide public, private and charter schools with high quality, diverse arts programming that are aligned with statewide standards, and aligned with schools’ goals and curricula. We fulfill our mission with our three programs: Delaware Wolf Trap (DWT) for our earliest learners, K-12 residencies, and Professional Development for teachers.
