Chris Devany

Born and raised in Wilmington DE, Chris Devany began studying drumming and martial arts at the age of 7. After graduating from University of Delaware with a BAS in Spanish Foreign Language and Literature, Chris began performing with bands of distinct musical genres from punk to hip-hop to bossa nova. It was also at this time Chris began studying the Brazilian art of Capoeira with Brazilian Master, Adenilson dos Santos. Chris’ love of music, dance, martial arts and culture came together for him in Capoeira where he became immersed in the rich rhythmic traditions of Brazil. After over 20 years of study and over 15 years teaching throughout the US and abroad, Chris earned the title of Mestre (Master), becoming the first native of Delaware to earn this title. Chris continues teaching and performing Capoeira, percussion, and movement in schools and privately in the US and abroad.
