Nanci Hersh
Executive Director

Nanci was a teaching artist for DiAE before she became Executive Director in 2017. She is a mixed media visual artist, illustrator, arts and community advocate whose passion is to create space to engage, heal, and celebrate our communities.

Nanci was a teaching artist for DiAE before she became Executive Director in 2017. She is a mixed media visual artist, illustrator, arts and community advocate whose passion is to create space to engage, heal, and celebrate our communities.

With her cousin and author, Ellen McVicker, Nanci illustrated and co-created the children’s book Butterfly Kisses and Wishes on Wings: When someone you love has cancer…a hopeful, helpful book for kids. Nanci has received numerous honors including three purchase awards from the State Foundation of Culture and the Arts, Hawaii and three Leeway Foundation Art & Change Grants which funded her arts workshops with YoungMoms, a community organization in Kennett Square, PA that supports young mothers and their families. In 2016-17, she was Artist-in-Residence at the New Castle County Detention Center where she created a 16’ mural with residents, staff and community funded by Peacework, Inc.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States including “Eons Beyond the Rib,” at Seraphin Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, “Navigation Puzzle,” at the Delaware Contemporary, “Paper Work”, at the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie and “The Demoiselles Revisited” at Francis M. Naumann Fine Art, NYC, along with solo exhibitions in PA, NJ, DE, and Hawaii. Her work is included in the Public Collections of Johnson & Johnson, Herspace Breast Imaging, Leland Portland Cement, and OSI Pharmaceuticals to name a few.

Originally from New Jersey, Nanci received her BFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY and her MFA from University from Hawaii in Manoa, Hawaii.
